Discover Giannutri island
Giannutri is the southernmost island of the Tuscan archipelago. As a Marine Park, it offers visitors a still alive and uncontaminated Mediterranean nature but for the limestone origin it is precisely uderwater that we find its best riches. It provides 7 diving spots which can only accessed with an additional education which will be owned by every of our guides
The spots
Punta secca
Here we dive to the limits of the Park to hover on the beautiful wall that surrounds the whole island. The visibility, almost excellent, allows you to enjoy the vertical wall falling over 50 meters, full of splits and ravines, the realm of lobsters. Very easy is to meet snappers and amberjacks of rare size, barracudas and different kind of fishes. Often, near the Posidonia sea bed in shallow water, a saint peter fish welcome us.
Punta secca shoal (Secca di punta secca)
The shoal, very close to the ground, does not exceed 20 meters in depth but, leaving it behind and flipping towards the open sea, we will meet the wall that characterizes the island. The rock of the buoy often hides lobsters of considerable size while the external cave of the shoal is the usual home of shrimps. Even here it is possible to come across saint peter fish.
Nasim II Wreck (Relitto del Nasim)
A merchant ship sunk in 1976 due to a strong storm and is a particular diving spot. The ship, 66,50 meters long, carried vehicles that we be found around the wreck and under the outer wall of Cala Maestra. The almost excellent visibility gives strong emotions to shipwreck fans: during the descent the shape of the ship resting on the sand on the port side appears almost immediately. In autumn it is easy to meet tuna and amberjack while they hunt. The considerable depth, between 48 and 60 meters, reserves the dive only to expert divers with decompression certifications.
The groupers (Le cernie)
Immersion in the company of groupers of generous dimensions that often let themselves be approached curious. In the Posidonia sea bed overlooking the landslide it is possible to find seahorses and, with a little luck, the saint peter fish.
Anna Bianca wreck (Relitto dell’Anna Bianca)
The ship, almost 47 meters long, lies on a sandy bottom, broken into two sections. The stern can also be visited in “recreational dives” with expert and diligent divers who, following the guide, manage to dive in the safety curve within 40 meters with a total time of about 22 minutes. The bow, not far away, rests on the sand but the depth, over 52 meters, reserves it for technical divers. Thanks to the sandy bottom and constant visibility, the wreck fascinates with its brightness, the presence of large conger eels, snappers, red chestnuts and colored nudibranchs on the metal sheets that have chosen it as their home.
The arches (Gli archetti)
Cross the natural arches rich in benthic life, climb up to almost 2 meters in a garden of sea grass and then descend and meet the torpedo and the sea hares among the rocks that enchant us with the delicacy of their movement. All with visibility and light that make the arches one of our favorite sites … to a maximum depth of 18 meters!
San Francesco head (Punta San Francesco)
Protected by the mistral wind at the entrance of the spreader cove on the eastern side of the island, we dive, at the edge of the park, to meet the wall that runs along the whole island. Barracudas, snappers, yellow sea fans, sponges, moray eels, octopuses and nudibranchs of various species frame a varied environment that often offers exciting encounters with jackpots with pelagic and predatory habits.
